I thank God for giving us the opportunity to go to Nicaragua. I thank Him for putting a unique team together for such a time as this, for His specific purposes. I know He doesn't need us, but He let's us join Him, for His glory, to teach us, and to allow us to serve Him and others. We have been chosen to do His unique good work, and I look forward to everything our team will experience. I desire to see Him become obvious in everything... this brings Him glory. I want Him to teach me and move me. I want the name of Jesus to become supreme.
As I read over the commments these Scripture passages come to mind: "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation" Mark 16:15; "Speak Lord, for your servant hears" 1 Sam. 3:9; "Be doers of the word, not hearers only" James 1:22; "Father, glorify your name" John 12:28. So I am thinking: Go, Listen, Do, Glorify. This is my mission and hope.
I love our group and its strengths... we are one body, the saints, equipped individually and collectively to do the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ. We have exactly what we need, a great bunch of people with all kinds of strengths that God will use. I wanna thank everyone and I wanna let everyone know that I am praying for them and for God's glory.

Can you believe in 2 weeks we will be half way through our trip....I woke this morning before 4 and tossed and turned my mind going through all the things I needed to do to have all 4 of us ready to go and to be able to leave work for a week. Then it hit me, we only have 4 full days there...what were they (Bro David, Eric & Bill) thinking when they decided to do a second house? There is no way we can completely construct two houses in 4 days as I was adding one more thing to my list of things to be concerned about I was reminded God would not have brought us this far to allow us to fail.

I have been reading a book that talks about the Isrealites wandering in the wilderness..it talks about God telling Joshua to pick up 12 stones from the middle of the Jordan River to be a reminder to future generations of what God had done for the people of Isreal. The stones were to remind them of all the ways God had already provided for them, and to praise HIm for what He has done not to dwell on the obstacles in front of them. When I thought about that it made me start to think of all the ways God has already provided for us for this trip, so I started gathering stones...these are the ones God has brought to my mind...I am sure there are many more..share your stones!'

* Church's support of an international trip for Youth (first one that needed airplane transportation that I have ever known of in over 30 years at FBCP)
* Meeting financial need...offerings and fundraisers..God blessed this beyond we could ever imagine
* Funds for 2nd house....decided not to do 2nd house because concerned about funds, after the decision was made to build the second house $1500 was donated within a week...
* Parents being willing to let their kids go....10 Youth, 2 CC and 10 Adults going on trip...original thought, 10 youth and 10 adults...we have surpassed this!
* Passports..all in
* Work assignments...one person has a different assignment for the summer, God put them in the position that allowed them to take the week off
* Lack of pay while off work....concern about asking for the week off and how to make up the pay they would miss....just so happens the place of employment closes for a week and everyone gets paid!
* Reasonable Hotel with free parking!
* Donations...Sisters in Christ willing to fill the suitcases...donations tripled in a week

I keep thinking about my answer to these questions. I have many, mixed, feelings about this trip. When I was a little girl, I thought I was supposed to be a missionary when I grew up. I learned, that my mission in life, besides that of wife and mother, was to be a special education teacher. I always think of the reference "... to the least of these..."
I wouldn't be going on this trip if we weren't building one of the houses in memory of Papa. He was my spiritual Rock, and life has been different since he died. We ended our relationship with camp, which had been my main area of service. Since then I have continued to serve with special needs folks and their families, but not so much in the spiritual area of their lives.
It has felt a little like we had been wandering in the wilderness. In the past few months Mike & I have found a new place of worship and are connecting with some strong Christians. I feel like this mission trip is something of a "jump start" to being more of a servant for Christ.
I feel like our group's mission is to show unconditional love for the folks we meet, and to be servants to them, showing the love of Christ.
My prayer is that I will find a way to share His love through sharing with someone with special needs.
I feel the strength of our group is the diversity of its members, and that we all have different perspectives to share with others - and each other. I can't wait to get to know some new friends, and enjoy the fellowship with family - and old friends. I also can't wait to see what God has in store for all of us as we share this adventure.
I also pray for our safety and that of our family members here at home.

I decided to type my responses before I read what everyone has put…I wonder how close our thoughts are…

1)	What is our group’s “mission”? What do you think it should be?
I think something Bill said about the trip last year hit me as what our mission on this trip should be…When he mentioned that Glynward told them that even standing around they were witnessing to the village. I would say our mission is to Share God’s love and compassion with everyone we come in contact with from the time we get on the vans at the Church to the time we get off at the Church. Who knows God may be taking us to Nicaragua to show His love to the Hotel Clerk in ATL.

 2) What are your “hopes” for this trip?
Successfully complete both houses, the most visible part. Have the opportunity to share God’s love with the people in the village, whether it is beside them working on the house or playing with the kids. And to personally become more appreciative of the things God has given to us and to leave with a renewed relationship with Him.

3)What “strength’s” do you see within our group?
First, I would say, I think that all of us going are going because of our compassion for the people in the village and because we feel like it is what God wants us to do. The other thing is that everyone going is a “doer” sometimes people wait around to be told what to do andthere are others that look around and find somewhere they can help…I think our group is made up of the second type of people. Hopefully this will help us to make the most of the time that we are there.

Like was said at the meeting, I think that our mission is not only to teach and help but to learn, and to be directly exposed to the kind of poverty we generally don't see in America. I think our overall goal is always to bring glory to God though.
I hope that we can have a lasting positive effect on the people that we encounter and vice versa. I also hope we don't let our comforts get in the way without air conditioning and whatnot!
I agree with Jonathan that we all have individual strengths. As a group, our strength is working as the body of Christ and not separate entities.

In the past when I've gone on mission trips, I always look forward to making a difference in someone's life. The most wonderful thing is that those people that I am planning on making a difference in their lives are the ones that end of making a difference in my life. I love sharing the "Good News of Jesus" with everyone I come in contact with, however, it is so amazing to me to see how other people live and even though they have almost no material things, they have a joy and a peace about them that is so much greater than what many people have that are blessed with an abundance of material items. Seeing the poverty that exists in other parts of the world is really life altering and I so welcome that change in my heart that will take place when confronted face to face with it.

For me our mission is "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening". Our mission should be to seek what God is leading us to do and then do it (with a joyful heart)!!! My personal mission is to allow God to use me as He wishes, that His will be done.

I think the "strengths" in our group are limitless!!! I think we have the ability to accomplish any and all goals that are expected of us and to exceed those goals. We do have many leaders in this group, as was pointed out in our last meeting, however, I do believe that these leaders are also wonderful followers and doers!!!!

I am so very excited to be a part of this Mission Trip Team!!!

Our groups mission is to go out into the world and to share the love of Jesus, and to have an impact in other peoples lives. That's what i think it should be, not to just go cause it'll be fun (which it will be) but to do everything we're gonna do for the glory of God. My hopes for this trip would be to lead many people to Christ, that everyone would be safe, and last but not least, is that no one would go back home without some kind of change. Everyone has different strength's (obviously) but I think if we put them together, we can make a huge different in Nicaragua.
